Group by WBS in MS Project

Ok,

This is something which should be fairly simple to do.  Is it possible to group and outline by WBS in MS Project without defining an outline code?  Ok, the project naturally is sorted into the WBS but I would like to add grouping and outline bands (like in Primavera) without having to define a outline codes.

Many thanks

Hi Ellen,

Thanks for your response, it hasn't helped.  My WBS is pretty high level for the current plan so I may just opt for an outline code.  I have persuaded the client to develop the main schedule in Primavera.

Kind regards

Simon

This is a good question.  In MS Project 2010 an option was added to the Grouping function that allows you to maintain the hierarchy.  This was not an option in previous versions of the software.  All versions has the option of showing the summary tasks which might give you what you are looking for.

When you go into Group --> more groups, click on the grouping, click on Edit you will see the summary task option in the lower left corner of the option box.

I hope this helps.
