Dear All,
Manhours and Unit (Resource) Assignment-in P6 Schedule
I am in process of developing construction schedule (as I will be migrating from P3 to P6) need help on the following:
- How can I assign budgeted manhours to activities (Direct+Indierct)
- Budgeted Quantity of activity (MTO)
- Creation of Calendars with holidays as site will be on rotation 10days works 4days off.
Subsequently Can I generate S curve for above separately?
Can I use earned value of direct manhours to update weekly S curve?
Thanks & regards,
Ali
Thank you. My question was where to assign them in P6 under different resource category of same type of resource i.e. labor I have to assign budgeted manhours and quantity of each activity. Later extract progress and earned value & quantity.
Regards,
Look for Converting P3 Projects to P6 chapter in the following reference, it might be of help.
In particular page 123: Verify each resource’s unit of measure in P3 and how it will convert to the PM module.

Ali,
I think I do not understand your questions. I am not thinking that you are asking about; “from which menus or items you are going to assign resources change calendars and export loadings at P6”.
Sorry I cannot help you.

Thanks Safak, More response please.

Ali,
As far as I understand you want to have basic setup as P3:
- Actual to date = % * BQ
- Link remaining duration with % complete.
So when you enter % of activities after scheduling you can have actual values equals to earned values. Also having single earned value / Baseline S-Curves.
You should use Fixed Duration & Units and also make Duration % same as Units % (or you can update Actual QTY as BQ * % Duration). This will give you earned values and zero variance remaining quantities that you can have S-Curves projections in earned values and monitor SV. Be informed that this way you cannot monitor CV.
I hope I understand your need and help it.

Thanks Safak, I have already gone through P6 102 & 106 courses.
This query popped up because while I assign manhours & qty the default unit/time and budget unit time shown in % is this ok?
Thanks,
Ali
Ali,
The subjects you are asking is nearly all course content of PM-102. The course book is hundreds pages.
If you are migrating from P3 you need to study because; Duration Types, % Types, Baselining, Export&Import and reporting (Especially reporting) are quite different and complicated from P3 in first glance.
My recommendation is take at least PM-102 (3 day course) in order to familiarize with software.
