I created a new project and the start date is Dec 2010. But when I started creating the first activity in the project, the start date of this project was not Dec 2010, it was the date of the computer 1 Feb 2011. eventhough the data date is the same date of the planned start date.

It seems that you created the New Project on today date 01 Feb 2011 and you set the Planned Date on Dec 2010.
When you applied schedule or pressed F9 you did not notice the data date shown on the pop up window which is the current date 01 Feb 2011 and hurriedly press schedule, thats why the result is as what you seen.
