Earned Value still zero while Durarion % Updated

Hi Everyone,

Problem:

Few activities earned value is stll zero against  duration percentage updated morethan 1% and less than 100%. Cost  loaded in the expenses field. How it can be solved to show earned value. Do I neeed any earned value setting?

But all other activities show earned value while I update the progress.

Admin Earned value setting is based on activity progress.

Many thanks in advance for your solution

Hi

First and Foremost thing, EV is calculated based on Baseline Budgeted Cost. It is very important to see the distribution of this budgeted cost across your whole activity duration. The distribution is controlled by Resource-Curve. By default, resource curve assigned for any distribution is "Linear". In such Linear case, EV will be calculated normally. But sometimes, If different Curve has been defined and assigned say, Total cost loaded at the end part for two time periods of the activity only then EV will keep on showing Zero values for say upto 80% activity progress, and after 80% progress only, EV will start be appearing with some values.

Conclusion is, check the resource curve assigned for that acitivity.

Hai

You Can Also Check the Following

1.After Updating the  Expense %  whether the  actual cost , Remaining Cost for the activity in Progress is Showing correct

2.Check Expense % = Activity%

3.If not Type the Actual Cost & Remaining Cost

4.Check whether Auto Compute Actual is Tick

Hi Amit,

Thanks. Yes cost is loaded to BL and BAC is showing the value of same of Budgeted Total Cost. This is happening to less than 10 activities of 5000 activities. Other activities are fine. I have tried to copy the activities which show earned value, however When it copied that new activities earned value is becoming zero.

Hi Ajith,

The activities for which the EV is coming zero, do they have cost loaded in the baseline? The calculation for EV are

EV= perf%complete X BAC (Budget at Completion), where BAC= Cost in Project Baseline

So if the BAC=0 then your EV will always be zero.

Hai

You can Check the Following

1.Insert Expense % Complete Column and check whether it has percentage same as activity% or Duration%.

2.If your Cost is loaded in Expenses Item then you need to update manually Expense % Complete.

3. Expense % is not linked with Activity% or Duration %.

As your Cost is Loaded in Expense item are you able get Remaining Late Cost to Draw Late Curve. If so can you Say me the Steps

i am able get Remaining Late cost only for Resources item

The Expenses is not taken in consideration while calculating the earned value. It should be in the cost load for each resource or to create a seperate resource with zero unit value and cost value.

hi ajith

what is your percent complete type assigned in the project?

check it from project details defaults tab of your project

make sure it is duration
