If recommend to use intelligent Activity ID to identify project to project link or external link. Its also easy to filter link with external project using this approach.

The way I do this is to add the 2 columns External Early Start & External Late Finish.
You can also creat a filter that says, where External Early Start is not equal to "Blank" or where External Late Finishis not equal to "Blank".
These fields hold the dates for external logic into and out of the schedule and within the scheduling options where you can select to "Ignore relationships to and from other projects" These are the dates that are ignored or used to drive the links.
Consequently as I understand you need to open the portfolio of projects and analyse them to update the links/dates so that they remain valid. If you fail to do this on a regular basis then that external dates will get out of sync and youll think everything is hunky dory then all of a sudden the wheels fall off.
