Dinesh,
I always used updated data as a baseline for calculating EV, comparison, cost analysis, what if... etc and no problem at all. As long as you know what you are doing and like what I have said, P6 use planned date and not actual date when use in baseline. If the updated data is used and planned date as still intact but if you need the actual date and value to used then you need to modify planned date to match with actual date. Below link is might be helpful to you.
How to set Baseline- After revised the Schedule and to Post#2
Hi Rodel
Thank you for your reply. I am not worried about the contractual part rather I am worried about P6 capabilities in terms calculating earned value, planned value, displaying baseline dates etc. Have you experienced any such issues or problems when you assigned the updated schedule as the baseline?
Thansk & regards
Dinesh
Hi Dinesh,
Approving baseline that effect the critical path or having contractual issue like extending duration of completion is like giving them an EOT. You must be very careful because EOT might have cost associated with it. All document submitted associated to re-baseline must carefully review if their entitlement of EOT is valid or re-baseline is required.
Note: Using updated schedule as baseline is not an issue as long as there is no effect on critical path or any contractual issue or obligation. Aside from that P6 use planned date for baseline and not actual dates unless updated schedule is modified to reflect actual date = planned date.
If you are on contactor side then all documents to prove that re-baseline is required must be prepared by you or your planner to substantiate the re-baseline so the client will buy it.
Best Regards,
Rodel
Hi Rodel
I am on the client side. Actually it does not matter whether you are on the client side or the contractor side. I am just trying to understand of any issues arising out of using updated schedule as baseline.
Thanks ^regards
Dinesh
Dinesh,
Im not sure if I get the message correctly. Are you on the client side or contractor side? Is there any contractual issue affected?
