planners,

here is the error I am getting while using update basline function

as I click update following error code comes up.

Error code E3FF796F

as I select ok or exit / ok / more any of that button, it says error occured during update process. please see log file. And the log file gives following detail.

XML document must have a top level element. Error processing resource ’file:///C:/UpdateBaselineLog.XML’.

Anyone there to explain why this is happening and what to do for resolving this problem?

Thanks

Kandarp

Kandarp,

Step 1: Go to Project tab - select assign baseline option ..in that change project baseline as current baseline and close

Step 2: Go to Project tab - Select Maintain baseline option...in that select your baseline and click restore option which will then create a seperate project (which was your intial baseline).

Step 3: Add the activities to the new project and again create a baseline if you want.

Hope this helps you.

Regards,

Balaji

Rodel,

Many thanks for your quick reply. But sorry as I did not understand it coz as I mentioned I am very new to planning world and directly trying my hands on P6.

Just to reiterate my question, I have about 80 activity in place. 60 already using a baseline and 20 new has do not have any baseline attached to. This 20 I have just added with the planned start and finish date. And I want P6 to use this planned dates as base line start/finish dates.

Also, in your reply you saying to remove assigned baseline first but When I go in Assign baselines, it does not give me any field or option to remove it?

I appreciate all planners help.

Kandarp,

->Detached the assign baseline first (Project-> Assign baselines then remove the assigned baseline that need to modify)

->Then Restore the baseline (Project-> Maintain Baselines then select the baseline that need to modify then click Restore)

->Open the restore baseline and add those activities then maintained and assigned again.
