Dear Kuman,
In addition to the remarks made by Mike and Rafael, please consider the following:
Question: To incorporate changes and to overcome delays.
Answer: To incorporate contractual changes, you will make a plan to complete the changes and update the schedule with the approved changes by the client. For example, if you change the False Ceiling from Gypsum to Cement Board, then you change the activity description only.
To overcome delays while maintaining the same finish date you have many options that the Contractor can take without any implication to the Client:
1. Crashing
2. Resource Leveling
3. Change Construction Method
Question is if the schedule need to be updated till date of revision with actual dates in the software and with data date as the schedule revision date, the schedule should be run while incorporating the required revision.
Anwer: If the revisions are approved by the Client then you can incorporate it in the Schedule, if not, then you need to keep track of it separately until it is approved.
or alternatively ,the data date to remain project start date and adjust the durations logic for the activities progressed upto the data date and thereafter incorporate the required revisions, which way is more accurate and usual way of doing a revision to the program.
Answer: Completely wrong way. This is not an option.
With kind regards,
Samer
Kumar,
Do what we do, we keep a contractual schedule we post on the wall and never use to the satisfaction of the Owner, very clean with no handwriting. Keep another working schedule as per your true plan, keep it kind of dirty and with a lot of handwritten comments, the same as true work drawings, otherwise your PM could fire you for being a prima dona.
If you go to court it does not matter, any schedule is to be questioned, under discovery of evidence you just tell the court that the Owner would not allow you to make necessary changes as for it to represent what was happening, you had no other option. Then you present the true schedule, a surprise to the Owner, and you will have him off-balance, make sure this was the true schedule used and keep your own records to substantiate why you had to use a different schedule that was true representation of your plans.
Best regards,
Rafael
Hi Kumar
I am sorry if you think I am being obtuse but there is only one situation where a programme revision is required and that is where the Contract allows it.
If an event has occurred that affects the progress of works then the programme may need to be adjusted - but only in accordance with the agreed terms of Contract.
If you have a domestic issue with your own problems then it is a good idea to adjust a copy of the programme to see what the outcome might be - and how to solve it.
Best regards
Mike Testro.

Hi Kumar
It all depends on why you need to revise it.
