Rodel Marasigan , YOU HAVE ALMOST ANSWERED MY QUESTIONS FROM BELOW NOTE THAT YOU HAVE PUT UP . WHEN I AM TAKING PLAN VALUE ON ACTIVITIES (ON SAY ONE DATA DATE) & COMPARING WITH THE PLAN VALUE ON RESOURCE DISTRIBTIONS CURVE BASED ON TIME SCALE (UPTILL SAME DATA DATE) , I AM GETTING DIFFRENCE IN PLAN VALUE . WHY THESE TWO VALUE ARE DIFFERENT FROM DIFFERENT SOURCE (i.e ONE FROM ACTIVITY BASED ON DATA DATE & OTHER FROM RESEOUCE DISTRIBTIONS BASED ON TIME SCALE ).

Note (BY Rodel Marasigan): Planned Value on activities is based on Data Date while planned value on distribution curve is based on timescale. You should use resource spreadsheet plan value if you looking at timescale

Hey MR CAPS LOCK!!!

ARE SHOUTING? THE DIFFERENCE IS YOU ARE COMPARING APPLE TO ORANGE AND NOT APPLE TO APPLE.

THE REASON IS YOUR DATA DATE IS 12:00 MIDNIGHT WHILE THE TIMESCALE IS THE END OF THE DAY TIME SET ON YOUR CALENDAR. MEANING IF YOUR CALENDAR SET ENDING 5:00PM FRIDAY BUT YOUR DATA DATE IS FRIDAY 12:00AM THEN YOU HAVE ONE WHOLE DAY DIFFERENCE. CHECK YOUR DATA DATE AND CHANGE IT TO 5:00PM

Edit-> Users Preferences-> Dates tab and tick 12 hour (1:30PM) to show time THAT SHOULD FIX YOUR PROBLEM.

AND PLEASE DON’T SHOUT YOU ARE JUST ASKING A FAVOR!!!

Chetan,

Can you give me an example and which profile are you using so I can understand what you need to attain.

Budget value = total budget

Plan value = spread value on the timescale of budget value.

I don’t know where you get variance between the two and should be the same. The only variance that you may have is having a baseline with different budget value use to spread on the timescale as plan value comparing to current budget with different sum.

Note: Planned Value on activities is based on Data Date while planned value on distribution curve is based on timescale. You should use resource spreadsheet plan value if you looking at timescale.

Mr Rodel Marasigan , Thanks for your good clarifications for Plan Values . Does it mean that if i want to get plan Budgeted value for say 10 supervisors (each supervisor having say 100 activities) , i have to highlight 100 activities 10 times & see the assigned resource plan value . Which is Rather difficult , Time consuming & there are chances for error in recording. The same information i can get it without assigning resource curve just by grouping the supervisor & see the total Plan Budgeted value . Although the former is more accurate for measuring the plan Budgeted value as per your explanations .

Chetan,

I’m still not getting your query. Which 2 different methods are you comparing?

If you are looking for a meaning of curve distribution factor here is the answer.

If a resource is assign with curve then the curve distribution factor will be use for plan value.

Ex:100 unit for 5 days using Curve define = 5, 10, 20, 50, 15.

Plan value day1= 5, day2= 10, day3= 20, day4= 50, day5= 15

No curve assign using same unit for 5 days

Plan value day1 = 20, day2 =20, day3= 20, day4=20, day5= 20

Curve is assigned to resource assign to activity (i.e front load, back load, bell shape, linear...etc...)

I am referring to Planned Value Labor unit (PVLU) which is value computed as base line Labor unit multiply by schedule percent complete . My question is very simple why by 2 different method as indicated below there is difference in final planned value . ??? as per the definition OF PVLU the difference is coming from "curve distribution factor " , hence i want to know what is the curve distributions factor .

Chetan,

Sorry I did not exactly get your query. Please elaborate. Which profile are you using and comparing?

Note: When resource are highlight filtering of activities is not same as filtering of resources.
