I think that there are plenty of ideas. Francis has to tell us the scope of his project, and we can provide, if possible, the major activities and the critical path amongst these actvities.

Dear Francis,
Most probably there will be 2 line of activities which can be critical:
1- Calculation of HV/MV loads -- Procurement of Transformers or Generators (Long Lead Items) -- Installation of transformers or generators -- Termination & Loop checks HV/MV -- ICSS setup completion for HV/MV -- precomm.&commissioning
2- Process Design Completion before HAZOP -- Plot Plans & Equipment Layouts -- Preperation of Pipe Requisitions -- Procurement of Piping -- Pipe Fabrication, Erection -- Hydrotests -- Instrumentation completion -- TIE-IN’s -- Precomm. & Commissioning
The second line will be critical according to the number of systems to build. Which determines how many different type of pipe you gonna need to procure.

Dear Shahul,
If the design of the facility is complete before the Construction starts, then most of the equipment will be on site before the Construction is complete.
Procurement is definitly long lead. You only have the concrete, steel, insulation material, structural steel at site. Most of the remaining material is imported from different countries all over the world. If you have good engineering and BOQs, and enough percentage of waste, then you should not have problems. It is all project dependent.

Keep an eye on long lead items too which might turn critical if any change in design occurs . I have experienced one such case

Like other projects, the upper level critical path is the following:
1. Design
2. Finance
3. Tendering
4. Construction of Substructure
5. Fabrication
6. Erection
7. Installation of Equipment
8. Testing and commissioning
The complexity of the Construction is project dependent. And the best people to outline the sequence of activities are the people who are going to actually build it. So I strongly recommend that you identify at least 3 key Contractors and have meetings with them regarding their previous experiences with similar projects.
