Resource Planned Finish Date

I know this thread is old but I am facing the same problem and I cannot find any logical reason behind this issue.

I will tell you first how did i figure out this problem. Suddenly when i made a resource loading report and exported it into excel, i found out that the budgeted units are not being distributed into the full duration of the activity but just at the start of the activity.

When i checked the resources tab under activity window, I found out that the planned finish is always equal to planned start and that planned date for the resources do not match that of the activities. Budgeted units values are Ok but the units/time are set to zero.

after some investigations, I found out that after setting the activity OD to zero then assign back OD to its previous value, all the resources units are back to normal and the planned dates for the resources are matching the activities planned dates.

I do not have an explanation of why this is happening? This is actually stupid and I really feel that P6 is just terrifyingly unreliable and P3 is much more reliable.

In Primavera SureTrak this variation might also be caused by entering resource lag and/or resource durations. Maybe P6 have a similar functionality.

From SureTrak help:

If the resource will work for a timeperiod that is different than the activity duration (either during only a portion of the activity duration or for longer than the activity duration), specify a resource duration.

If resource use does not start at the same time the activity begins, specify a resource lag.

Did you check:

View "Projects" --> tab "Resources" parameter "drive activity dates by default" ?

If not marked -->

- mark it

- Open View "Assignments"

- right mouse button in table area -->columns --> customize --> expand "general" --> double click onto "Drive Activity Dates" --> check.

If not marked, create a global change to save the units into a UDF. --> Change --> mark --> "F9" Schedule --> move units from UDF to budgeted and remaining units.

Good luck!

Dieter

It sometimes depends upon when you add the resources vs. when they were scheduled.

We use a global change to correct the planned start/finish to the same dates as the start finish.

But of a pain as there is also the activity planned start/finish as well to check

Just checked - they were different, I have changed the resources calender to match and refreshed/scheduled and summarized but the dates still haven’t aligned
