Further to Alan's workaround it must be noted that the ordinal dates obtained from this workaround display dates based on working days only (Depending on the activity calenders). So say if you have a project with activities using different calenders and different no. of working days, don't be surprised to see Ordinal end date of the project not matching with the project duration (which usually is expressed in Calender days).
Thanks a lot .
Surprised why P6 does not provide an easy feature for the same.
Hope they include this feature in their new version

Kumar,
If you want to show the day numbers for each activity in columns, try the following work around.
Go to Tools, Global Change, New.
Go to the middle section of the change under "Then" and click "Add"
Under Parameter select "user_start_date1"
Under "Is" select "="
Under Parameter/Value select {Custom} and then enter the start date for your project. eg 1-Oct-09
Then click Add to add another line.
Under Parameter select "user_integer1"
Under "Is" select "="
Under Parameter/Value select "Early Start"
Under "Operator" select "-"
Under Parameter/Value select "user_start_date1"
Then click Add to add another line.
Under Parameter select "user_integer2"
Under "Is" select "="
Under Parameter/Value select "Early Finish"
Under "Operator" select "-"
Under Parameter/Value select "user_start_date1"
Run the global change and this will calculate the start and finish date number.
Under Columns show user_integer1 and user_integer2.
Under Group and Sort uncheck "Show Group Totals" if this box is checked.
This should then give you the start and finish day numbers.
I am assuming that you are not using any of the custom fields I mention above for anything else!
Hope this helps!
Kind Regards
Alan
Kumar,
Right click on the screen in the barchart area of the screen.
Left Click on timescale.
Check "Show Ordinal Dates"
Choose "Ordinal Date Interval" and select the unit you want.
Un-check "Show Primary Dates"
Apply these actions and this should give you what you are looking for.
Kind Regards

Shall i confirm there is no option in P6 to display ES AND EF in day number instead of date.
But how you all are submitting bid programs submitted in P6,as the start date is not known only the project duration is stated in the bid documents
There has been no clear answers if it is possible to display the ES/EF dates in day no e.g Project start ,day no.1 instead of date say 1-10-2010.
Does P6 have this facility,if so how to do it in P6
Kumar I

Any software can do it, look at the following screen capture, you will see ordinal dates on the time scale as well as on custom formula fields.
If you paid more than 100$ for your software and it cannot do it you got ripped.
Best regards,
Rafael
Rafael,
it is not necessary.
Spider may show number of days from the project start in the time scale.
And of course you can create formula fields.
But formula cannot be applied to the time scale.

Vladimir
Vladimir,
Can you use formula fields within Spider Project to do that?
Arnold,
I also understand that some newer versions of P6, maybe web version do have the functionality of formula fields.
Best regards,
Rafael
Arnold,
it is natural desire.
When project start date is not known and you need to submit proposed project schedule you may show that some activity will be done on 62nd day from the project start and not on the certain date.
This situation is rather usual when you need to submit the proposal or bid.
Best Regards,
Vladimir
Hi Kumar,
What do you mean dates as "day number", like what? You must cite an example. Date like 20.10.09 instead of 20-Oct-09?
If you need date like 20.10.09 then go to Admin --> User Preferences --> Dates tab, Options, untick the "Month name" and change the Separator to (.)

Arnold
