Thats right, you have to key in Est weight for each activity base on your experience.
Then run Top down estimation in Tool menu.

If i need to enter manually, then, i will check for S Curve as suggested by you.

You can choose S-curve to display base on early or late date by setting option in Edit -> User Preference -> Resource Analysis.
