Milestone Placement by Schedule % Complete

Hi Tory

This may work.

Calculate the date that is 70% of your duration.

Locate all tasks that straddle that date and split them on the date.

Link all the split ends to a milestone labelled 70%.

Place another milestone on the same line at the start of the contract.

Summarise these milestone to give a bar that ends at 70% of time.

Switch off the "Link Around Progress" facility.

Then your 70% bar will stop moving when progress passes the 70% task slits.

There may be a spread when slower tasks take longer to cross the 70% split.

What do you think?

Best regards

For project closeout I need to mark percentages of the duration of total project time. If the duration in time shortens or extends, I need the kickoff milestones to move accordingly.

I am not sure hammocks will help me here. I do use Steps, WBS, and Level of Effort groupings but none of these can be set the way I discribed either.

I just started looking into PowerProject. I am not sure how it might help.

Well, Everyone I have talked to says this is a great idea but Primavera can’t do this yet. I figured it was not capible or I would have found a way by now.

Primavera support has put in a features recommendation for us on this. If you think it would be handy, let Primavera know you would like the program to do this as well. They don’t add things unless enough people use them.

For now I will just create generic Milestone activities and attach closeout sequences to those. The down side is that I will have to asign these milestones to specific activities for each schedule I build. No automatic placement by project %

Thanks to all who thought about this but could not find a solution to post.

Thanks

Hi Tory

What are you measuring the percentages against?

Time - Money - Resource Hours.

Powerproject has a buffer task facility that extends or shrinks as the project moves and flags a warning when it has been expended.

This facility may be made to work on your case.

Have you tried creating moving hammocks?

Best regards

Re-phrase the Question

I want to create milestone activities that are linked to the duration of the overall schedule. For instance I want markers that sit at 70% 80% 90% of the project duration and move acordingly if the project duration extends or contracts. How do I do this?
