Hi Civ,

I think the problem is in your User Preferences. I think, in Time Units tab, the Units Format changes from Hour to Day.

Try to check this.

Arnold

Vic

With a global change, you can’t access the baseline while it’s assigned to the project - only by restore --> modify --> assign.

It would be possible by SQL-program. As far as I know no direct means. For my opinion there must be a different mistake.

If you have a chance, show your plan to an experienced planner.

In a three days training you can’t cover all items.

Good luck!

Dieter,

Yes I attached the baseline to all the project updates. Any solution you can think of? What global changes would have been done to reduce original duration and budgeted labor units to 80% of what it was?

I attended basic P6 course. $3000. Well basic did not tackle this. :-)

Charlie,

I can’t understand why it’s taken your "analytical mind"? this long to come up with that. Anoon picked it up straight away (see post #8) the clue Charlie is in post #1, [email protected] his e-mail address.

Before you make self-congratulatory remarks on your analytical mind or your supposed forensic planning abilities, you really ought to try reading the posts. If nothing else it would stop you making a complete clot of yourself.

At first thought his name seems foreign sounding as if some Turks from turkey.

But very seldom we will encounter such a name in Philippines.

Now I know, the guy spell his name backward.

It is Vic Velasco.

This is an example of analytical mind. The hallmark of a great forensic planner.

Cheers,

Happy Planning and Scheduling

Civ/Vic?

Reduce admin rights!

Baseline: Was it created as a baseline and attached to the project or was it a copy of your project? In the first case it shouldn’t be touched by scheduling and a modification of calendar settings.

Please explain more in detail.

Dieter

Please advise this situation regarding this problem:

Apparently, someone changed global settings. So, all my activity duration on the BASELINE schedule was reduced by 80%. And with that, the budgeted labor units as well.

Is there a fix to this? Can I change the global settings so I can revert back to the original duration and labor units?

PS This incident was brought about by all of us having ADMIN access.

I believe your name is Vic. So Vic, the schedule is supposed to be dynamic thus it depends on the chosen parameter. My advise is, the only thing that you need to fix is the work units or quantity of work, the rest i.e. manhours (labor), duration, are supposed to be flexible.

Quantity of work is supposed to be defined in the "scope", BOQ or in the "contract". Changes or variations with regards to the quantity of work is another story.

Activities were started?

View Projects, tab calculations: "Update units when costs change on resource assignments": Mark this checkbox for the Project Management module to recalculate units when costs are updated for the assignment. Cost changes, such as modifying the remaining cost for activities, cause the Project Management module to recalculate units. (from P6 Help)

Did you ever consider a training?

Dieter

Your right Civ, seemed something is really wrong about that because changing the duration of a Fixed Duration & Units type of activity would not change the units only the units per time...

1. Fixed Duration & Units

2. No. I just changed the "original duration" in some activities.

Civ,

1. What is your ACTIVITY DURATION TYPE?

2. Did you changed your resource UNITS/TIME?

Funny thing is, even the previous updates (same project but few weeks back), all the budgeted units were reduced by 80%. Is this a bug or something?

Civ,

I think you have to be careful with your Activity Duration Type.

Fixed Units/Time

1. If you change duration, your units changes

2. If you change units/time, your duration changes

3. If you change units, your duration changes

Fixed Duration and Units/Time

1. If you change duration your units changes

2. If you change unis/time, your units changes

3. If you change units, your units/time changes

Fixed Units

1. If you change duration, your units/time changes

2. If you change units/time, your duration changes

3. If you change units, your duration changes

Fixed Duration & Units

1. If you change duration, your units/time changes

2. If you change units/time, your units changes

3. If you change units, your units/time changes

hope it helps...
