P5 Steps and Earned Value

we usually use activity step to calculate the activity % complete if it is set to "physical" type. another option should be set in the WBS window which is performance % complete to be equal to the activity % complete. P6 will use the performance % complete to compute the EV.

if the performance % comp. was not set to be equal to act. % comp then the steps will not have effect on the EV.

Hi Ferdinand,

Why using a user_cost field for EV ? If you enter accurate Weight on each step, you should get the correct BCWP value as soon as you enter technical progress, shoudn’t you ?

Is there something I misunderstood ? Could you please explain ? Thanks.

Best regards.

Patricia

Dear Luca,

In a way, I mislead you by saying that "steps in P5 is not directly meant to evaluate the earned value". Sorry for that but you indeed can input corresponding cost in every defined STEP. Just customize the steps columns to show the user_cost1, input costs, and there goes next your earned value desire.

Cheers.

Dear Luca,

I have used the steps in P5 but it is not meant to directly evaluate the earned value as it only apportion the physical percent completion of an activity. Then, with the resulting percent completion, the activity’s earned value will then be calculated by the program.

In setting up the steps, you may use the pre-programmed templates in P5 or you may create your own. Please refer to help files for further information.

In Service,

Ferdinand
