You CAN show a bar. in the views WBS and Projects
Dieter
Thats true Dieter,
What i really want to know, is why this functionality has been added into P6, if we cant even show that as bar.
The practice u told we have been following for P3 also.
So, whats d use of anticipated dates options in P6?
Raviraj
If you want to show a bar for a project or wbs without activities.
I never use anticipated dates but one activity instead. There I can attach e.g. roles. Later when the planning is more detailed, I change this activity to level of effort or wbs summary (baseline, layouts will remain) which depends on the activities of this wbs.

Dieter
Thanks Dieter,
But can we have anticipated dates for the WBS Elements for which details are not known? Say, in a 25000 activity program, we have very limited details abt say 4-5 wbs elements. Is it possible to show anticipated dates in that case?
Expected Finsih date is for activities, whereas u can give anticipated start and finish dates for WBS Elements. So whats d use of adding into this new version? Is it just for Info?

The following is from the PM-RefManual:
"Anticipated start and finish dates are used during the project planning stage, and can be set at the EPS, project, or WBS level. If the selected project has no activities, or the activities have not started, the Start date or Finish date (in columns) is set equal to the Anticipated Start or Anticipated Finish. Click the Browse button to select a new date."
Hope this will help
Regards
Dieter
You can put an Expected Finish date on any in progress activities but I dont think there is a way of showing it as a separate bar in the Gantt - the only thing you can do is attach a bar label to your existing bars to show Expected Finish as text
