Dear oladapo,

Going to your original question, the steps to building a schedule are best summarized in the PMI "Planning Process Group". I will list the processes that enables you to create a schedule as follows:

1. Develop Project Management Plan.

2. Scope Planning.

3. Scope Definition.

4. Create Work Breakdown Structure.

5. Activity definition.

6. Activity sequencing.

7. Activity resource estimating

8. Activity Duration estimating

9. Schedule Development.

If you have any other question, please let me know.

Good Luck,

Samer

Hi Daniel,

You could be right. He might have misheard earned value as N value. That’s funny.

Hi Neeraj,

Yeah you’re right. N-value can be found from an SPT/Bore Log report. I don’t work for a geotechnical company but for a design build company.

Only time I have come across N value is SPT values during soil investigation. The blow count is used to determine soil bearing capacity.

Are you by any chance working in exploration projects?

You might have mis-heard it, maybe they were referring to "earned value"

I encounter N-value when I want to interpret a geotechnical report. This blow count will indicate how hard or how soft the bearing surface for foundation.

If you’re asking specifically in scheduling norms like in Critical Path Analysis, I haven’t encountered this if there is any.

for marginal field, I believe It’s quite difficult, I had just seen (on tv) a small town in Alaska (around 150 people living) and the only means for transportation is chopper, not to mention that the place was never been reach by their governor who happens to be running as... and one odd thing is some people thought they are part of Russia which is a few miles away.
