Hi James

This system was in use mainly as high rise social housing from the late fifties.

I remember visiting a site in progress with Edmonton Borough Council in 1960 with a group from Tottenham Tech.

It all came apart - literally - when in 1968 the block in Lewisham named Ronan Point collapsed following a gas explosion on the 18th floor.

A lot were then demolished because the required strengthening was too expensive.

The blocks in Edmonton are still standing and serving their purpose after 48 years - perhaps because my Dad was construction foreman at the time.

Have you not heard of this system before then?

Hi James

Bell & Webster do a pre cast modular structure with bathroom pods.

Go to their case study and you will see the method used.

As I said before the key is the finishings in the corridors after the services have been connected.

I like the bit about the "knock out" riser voids - thats new to me.

Good luck with it.

Hi James

I have tried to assist before but now I am beginning to despair.

What is your building background?

You replied -

A) Piled Foundations - OK

B) Concrete Ground Beams - Ok

C) Pre Cast Concrete Transfer Slab Ground to First Floor

What is the main structure? Steel or concrete - do you mean Transfer Slab Ground AND First Floor?

D) Pre Cast Concrete Rooms & Bathroom Pods First to Fourth Floor

I have never yet encountered a pre cast concrete Pod?

What is the system and who makes it?

Best regards

Hi Mike

Sorry i did not explain it very well, as i understand the Construction is,

a) Piled Foundations

B) Concrete Ground Beams

C) Pre Cast Concrete Transfer Slab Ground to First Floor

D) Pre Cast Concrete Rooms & Bathroom Pods First to Fourth Floor

Is this how the sequence would be or am i getting it wrong?

Thanks for your comments, hope the above makes sense?

Many Thanks,

James

Hi James

Are you talking about whole room pods or bathroom pods?

What is the structure - Steel or concrete?

Whatever you do just make sure that:

1. The pod manufacture and delivery is geared up to the structure progress.

2. The crane is big enough.

3. You have clear offloading and access to wheel in the pods with external scaffold platforms.

4. You allow time for a corridor link up of services before any finishings in the corridors.

Best regards
