If you can't edit your activity IDs then you probably don't have sufficient rights. Speak to your administrator or login with an admin password.

I have tried to copy and paste avtivities for changing activity ID's to a new sequence with respect to activity dates. But unfortunately the Sequence of activities did not change...
For example;
Before After the process
A1020 AD2020
A1030 AD2030
A1070 AD2070
A1050 AD2050
Why this is happening like this? Means, why A1070 renumber to AD2070 instead of the seaquencial, AD2050??
Any help?? I am using P6 v6.2
Glen,
There is a "seat-of-the-pants" method if your feeling brave.
Make a copy of your programme - Just in case!
Set "Auto Numbering Defaults to...
Prefix "Z" (or any you wish)
Suffix "10000" (or any you wish)
Increment "10" (or any you wish)
Now select all tasks you want renumbering (all if thats the case) and copy task, paste task selecting all paste options including "only between copied tasks" for logic.
You should now have a programme twice as big as before; twins in fact in all but tasks ID. Filter out the old tasks by ID and delete them. Bish Bash Bosh, what is left is the original programme but renumbered.
Only takes a few mins so have a go and see if you get what you expect.
The only downside is that any external logic links will be broken.
Activity ID is no longer as important now. you can certainly export to excel, mod the ID and import it back

Hi all,
just going off on a tangent slightly.
I have just taken over a plan which has been developed but not baselined yet.
The activity IDs are all over the place and I would like to re-number them from the say 100000 and going down in 10s (100010, 100020 and so on) can this be done without upsetting all the logic?
Thanks in advance.

Go to Edit, Replace and select ID column. Enter change xxx to yyy
Jineesh,
If the xxxxxxx part of your activity ID is the same length then you will be easily able to execute a global change; Similar to this;
Where Activity ID starts with EB
Then Activity ID = MW + Right String,Activity ID, n
Where n = the number of characters counting from the right of the activity ID to the first character after the original EB
eg. EBxxxxxx (n=5) changes to MWxxxxx.
Have a couple of trys witin an inert project to get it staright in your mind what you need to do, but it is entirely possible. I make sure that I set my IDs up in a manner where I can conduct this change as required, because Ive come across some PMs that like their activity IDs to be related to someone or something.

Try the Global Change (Tools --> Global Change --> click on the "Help" button. There is good information, so you should be able to use it.
If then youll have any questions, dont hesitate to ask again.
