Exporting Activities in P6

The situation with about 30 planners was with Citrix.

Currently I’m testing the web-based approach. If the tests will show good results - it seems ok until now - the next steps will be: concept, training, running live.

In P5-MyPrimavera too many functions were missing, to use it productively, but P6 seems a good start.

I’ve heard from the Primavera dealer that in Germany some companies are using this approach.

I think security settings will be the best option. Dieter, have you taken P6 on to the web?

Have you looked at exporting in excel format and filtering out the activities in excel before sending the file off. It may be difficult to sort out the relationships. I have not tried this myself.

Another option is to take a copy of the project that you wish to export part of and then delete the activities you do not want to export and then export.

I had an equivalent situation already with about 30 planners in different locations. It worked.

Essential is a good concept for the security profiles and the access rights. Overall scheduling should be restricted to yourself.

Thanks Dieter and Imam.

I thought the filters would be disabled in an import.

I’m trying to avoid the relationships to the summary schedule because there will be about 45 planners using the portfolio and am afraid that it will be impossible to manage the logic amongst schedules with so many people driving P6.

Programming of Primavera internal functions is top secret.

I didn’t understand if you operate with one database (=db) and the users attached remotely or if you have stand-alone db.

One db, then I would do it with relationships into the summary schedule. More db, then maybe you’ll collect the projects into your db (option "update") and then use the relationships to the summary schedule. Be aware, that the settings for time units are the same for all databases. Keep it simple.

Hope this will help.

Dieter
