Benjamin - My experience is identical to yours. There are so many work-arounds to compensate for the SAP PS shortcomings.
Furthermore, internal customers have lost all confidence in this worthless tool.
Warning to all planners out there - If your organization ever mentions that they want to implement SAP / PS module:
RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN !!!
PS was an abomination to implement. The city got sold a bill of goods. They were told it reduce the overall demand for staff, but nothing good be further from the truth. They later find out that they had to hire more staff. The appropriate staffing level has never been met, so the system is rife with errors.
Some aspects of the module either did not work or it was so time consuming that we had to find other ways. The City eventually went to Primavera 5.0, which later was upgraded to 6.0, and Contract Management. They use PS in a limited way.
Benjamin, thanks for your reply. Im currently using it as well and its not easy to implement a baseline change and the EVM is not the greatest Ive seen.
In my close to 20 years of Project Management, Ive used Open Plan (good), MS Project (OK), Primavera (great) and SAP (POS).
Yes, the City of San Antonio, TX, implemented PS as part of a SAP conversion about 2 years ago. What would you like to know?
