Hi...I find this topic interesting and I seemed to agree with Dattatreya. I once joined a project wherein included in the contract was what they called a Unit Price Anaylysis (UPA). In the UPA for example common excavation, it stipulates the equipment hours and manhours per m3. But, the number of equipments at site was equated only to a portion of the contract which was the mobilization. The engineer could say whether the contractor is under mobilization or not. If the production is low, the engineer after further substantiation could say to the contractor that it is because you are under mobilization, a breach of contract or the effeciency of equipments are low. The production required could be theoritically calculated and the equipments could operate on extended working hours.
Regards,
Arman
Any work executed by an Equipment whether its a welding Machine or an excavator can be converted into Man-hours/Efforts. It all boils down to the type of Contract (Engineering/LSTK/Construction or others)the progress Measurement System. When to talk about X thousand Construcion Manhours ona Project, it means real Construction efforts & not the equipment hiring/buying costs associated with it.
Cheers

Hi,
i think using equipments usage is not the best way,May be the production is better,e.g. rock have been excavated...
shiju u r reply is appreciated... but hw it is possible to convert equipments usage into mandays (this would b assumed only)...
I suggest to convert the quantities (of different materials and equipments) into a common term such as manpower or effort. This can give a realistic overall progress picture.
