Dear Vrinda,

The best source of information would be your team members who are going to execute the actual job. Please start asking the supervisors in the construction division or the production department.

Also, you can check previously executed project of similar nature within your company and determine the productivity rates.

Check for access to site, labor shortage and availability of material in the local market. These are some of the major factors that affect your productivity rates. You can add them as factors to modify your rates and later change them depending on availability.

Moutaz Aldeib,

Tender planner is a role with the bid team as opposed to the project team.

The difference is that the tender plan is a product that is used to

1.) Work out the overall timescales for the project.

2.) Work out likely cost of any level of effort & overheads within the estimate.

3.) Form part of the tender package.

4.) Gain the confidence of prospective clients.

whereas the project planner is using the plan to track, control and generally monitor variance/change.

Moutaz,

As a tender planner, your main responsibility is to produce a Tender Programme. This programme will set out the construction sequence, key milestones, and project duration. Producing a Tender Programme will be a minimum requirement. Other typical tasks falling with the Tender Planner is construction methodology, sequence diagrams, scaffold schedule, site layout, TC & Hoist requirements, etc, etc.

I have never heard about a specific course or qualification in Tender Planning. Tender Planning becomes an option once you are experienced enough to produce Master Programmes. Also, Tender Planners will be requested to attend interviews with Client Teams. Hence, they should be presentable and give a good impression.

Some would argue that the biggest perk with Tender Planning is that you will be based in an office away from the site.

Regards,

Larry
