How to Know the total No of activities in a layout ?

Hi Planners,
When i try to run matrix report for the number of activities in my schedule, i get the error message:
invalid code specified for project code
Can anyone guide me please? Thanks.
Why not try the matrix report in P3.
tools - > tabular -> matrix -> actvities
Not only you get the number of activities, you can break
that down by category too.
Here is my suggestion.
Tools->Tabular Reports->Report Writer->New Report
Content -->Data Item: NACT (Number of Activities)
Total: Yes
Selection--> Your filter criteria
Run Report
Thats it

Hi Franb,
Just run it to schedule now or find the icon that look like a clock then click it. or just simply run your schedule you will read the result in the report. ihope this will enlighten your question. If you are using primavera p5 you will easily count the no. of activities by adding column to it as it is incorporated in the tools.

4000 is the total no of activities in that layout

Or If Your Project Is Really Big
When You Open A Layout You Can See something like this
"Organizing Layout 2000 out of 4000 (50%)
obviously 2000 is the current activity count
Run Filter Once More To Make Sure

3 easy steps:
1. Create an activity custom data item as numeric called activity count
2. Use global change to assign 1 to this field on every activity (or use a column with fill cell)
3. Configure the column in the layouts that you want to this field and remember to group by at least one field (Project if nothing else) with a Total at Top (or bottom).
You now know the count.

without exporting to layout cant this be counted in the program itself.

You can export the filtered activities of the layout in Excel and count it there.
