Take these as well:

1- Can we use cost accounts to perform EVM?? If yes How??

2- For internal reporting system, we perform EVA with a program using cost prices. When the client asks to submit EVA programs and reports, we have to use a completely separate program loaded with selling prices (from BOQ or any other means. The question:

How can we overcome preparing 2 programs ( with thousands of activities) one loaded with cost prices for internal reporting and another loaded with selling prices for client submission?? How can we make ONLY one program that satisfies both needs?

Cheers,

Hello admin,

Let us start with these 3 questions:

1- Can we prepare Payment certificate submitted to client using P6 program??

2- Are we able to calculate/ verify subcontractors and suppliers payments using P6 program??

3- There is a software bug in P6 V7 when importing from P3. When I try importing from P3, I get an error message:

Invalid Class String, ProgID

EVENT CODE: ICSPI-1034-6

How this can be solved??

As a start, make sure "all" not some of the functionalities that you can find in P3 must already be available in P6.

the biggest challenge I believe is a "true" integration of P6 with accounting software. EVM in cost accounts will be very helpful.

Good luck to Oracle/Primavera.

Yes you have to assign resources and cost to activities, then P6 will automatically calculate PV and EV. AV, this is done manually.

I don’t normally go this route when performing EVM. I group by WBS instead of cost accounts in activities view though I use cost accounts to perform committed cost management in expense view.

BTW, we’re already off the topic.

Se,

My question is How to perform EVM in cost accounts?? How can I implement it in P6??

Anoon,

Quoted from Primavera Help "Hide if empty: Mark to hide group title bands that do not contain data items within the group. Mark if you are grouping by a hierarchical field, such as EPS or WBS, and the project has empty EPS or WBS bands. For example, mark this checkbox if you are grouping by WBS in the Activities window and the project has empty WBS bands."

" Hiding the empty bands ensures that the rolled up data is accurate."

I think it would be good for PP to have a Primavera guru contributing to the forum. We do have a number of expert P6 users who already help with questions, but an official rep could also get inovlved in discussions concerning future software developments, global contacts for sales & training, etc.

I’m sure some of our members wouold enjoy the chance to explain to an Oracle employee directly why they dislike P6 so much too!

Thanks Yasser,

Please try this:

1. From Projects View - Open top level EPS

2. From Activities View - what do you see?

3. From Activities View - Try to Group by (Group & Sort) EPS/WBS and by WBS only (please compare).

"Hiding the empty bands ensures that the rolled-up data is accurate". I don’t understand this - if it’s empty, then there’s no data.

Please tell us after what you find out.

cheers

hi anoon,

what do you mean by " you don’t want to see "resource costs" (cost accounts) measured against itself or themselves?"

A

Se & Yasser,

I supposed you don’t want to see "resource costs" (cost accounts) measured against itself or themselves?

And I believe you always wanted to see the activity costs summed up to WBS and again summed up to EPS?

cheers

Se,

I’m thinking of the resource assignments (per activity), and the coding and grouping functions of P6 (considering a big schedule, with several EPS/WBS) and how to organize and show it in a comparative form.

though I’m not really sure of what I want to see or I know how to do it

cheers

Hi Yasser,

change how you grouped the activities. Instead of WBS or activity codes, group by cost accounts then show planned value, earned value and actual values in columns. You can start from this. I guess you know already the rules how P6 calculate these values.

Let me know if this is what you’re looking for.

Hi Se,

Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking how to implement it. But How will we compare Actual cost accounts vs. Planned cost accounts??

Is it just through assigning actual units and costs to activities, then actual cost accounts are calculated/generated automatically??

Hello Anoon,

You can see it also using Activity codes in case you want to change the constant view of your WBS.

You can see it also in other different views.

very good indeed

i am looking if it is possible to export activities and resources as table ( matrix)

like

Activity ID Resources A B C D

A1000 20 50 30 10 MANHOURS

A1010 7

A1020 15 25

is it possible to export like above table directly from primavera p6

and if not why

SALAM TO ALL

Hi Yasser,

Sorry, you are talking of EVM, and I can’t even use the group and sort function. I just want to open an EPS (with projects and wbs) at once, but the group by option / hide if empty is greyed. I just want to show all WBS even if empty.

This is when I chose EPS/WBS.

I don’t have an "administrative rights" by the way.

cheers
