OK, this just means that you cant paste a link just anywhere you like, just as you cant type data into just any cell. I suspect that you are trying to paste dates into a Summary Task (heading) or similar. These are always calculated by MSP from the dates of the sub-tasks. Try pasting your link into a task cell.

After following the instructions a box appears stating: The paste link failed. You Cannot paste into a field that Project calculates automatically?
Please advise
Thanks

Lee,
1. in Excel, select the appropriate cells and click Edit, Copy
2. in MS Project, select the appropriate cells and click Edit, Paste special, with link, text
3. DO NOT move the files, or you will have to refresh the link
Cheers,
Alexandre
