There seems to be general agreement among the project/program community that projects are not focused as they should be on generating the desired business benefits. There are specific new techniques, extensively explored in my two books Managing Projects as Investments and Total Project Control, which can greatly assist this. They include the value breakdown structure (VBS), critical path drag and drag cost.

In my last few articles about aligning the benefits and value of programs with projects, I mentioned the VBS as a tool for ensuring such alignment. But a few people asked me if I could explain just what a VBS is. So in this article I explore the topic a bit, including a small VBS diagram.
I just posted a new blog article: “Managing the Program and the Project: What’s Similar, What’s Different?” It’s a followup to the article I posted last week, “Project Investments Are Whole-System Efforts and All Levels Must Play Their Parts.” How are projects and programs similar? Looking on the internet about how to close a Project I founded a really nice article I would like to share with you. The author explains the tipycal issues present on many projects at the time of closing a process. It brings a new perspective about this subject and it helped me a lot closing mine. :)

Dear PM Professionals!
I am in process of selecting thesis for my MS (Project management) Degree. My basic job involve Cost Estimation and Cost Control in construction industry of saudi arabia. I want to make thesis either in Cost Estimation or Cost Control. I need your suggestion in selecting a topic and if possible some content to include in thesis so, that my reasearch may help full for Project management professionals specially memeber of this site.
