Hi All,

What are the major differences in Project Management Consultancy and Construction Supervision Consultancy.

In my understanding the CSC includes, but not limited to;

1. Checking the compliance with technical specifications

2. Monitoring time, cost, quality

3. Coordination permitting/NOC issues

4. Approval of Invoices

5. QA/QC & HSE related matters

6. Review & Approval of submittals and materials

7. Monitoring Constructability

8. Evaluate claims from Contractors

Pre-FEED planning - PMO support

What support does your PMO provide at project setup? I was hoping for a poll, but no such luck. What I'd like to know is how you initially determine your project duration and initial estimate. Actually, I'm looking for the step or two after you receive the Project Basis or initial release for feasibility study(ies). Does the PMO provide any templates? Do you use Microsoft Project/P6/other planning software during the initial feasibility study. Any software at all? What support does the PMO provide? Don't expect an answer to all of these questions, but I would like to start a dialogue.

Why Won't We Recognize the Value/Cost of Time?

I just posted a new blog article titled “Why Won’t We Recognize the Value/Cost of Time?” This article discusses how blind our entire project management profession is (including PM software!) to the critical need to estimate what the cost is of late completion – but even more important, what the value is of early delivery!

June Issue of PMI's PM Network Magazine Contains a Great Review of Managing Projects as Investments

The June issue of PM Network is out and it includes a great review by Gary Heerkens of my book Managing Projects as Investments: Earned Value to Business Value. I have written a blog article about it that includes the link to the magazine. I've also started a discussion thread on my website where I will be delighted to discuss the review and/or the book, or answer questions if anyone is hesitating about getting it. (I promise, it’s not the same old, same old!)

Your first project

I’m collecting vignettes, anecdotes, stories about lessons learned on your first project. What advice were you given? What advice would you give to a PM starting his first project? What mistakes did you make? Anything from your first project that you’d do differently. What would you tell a neophyte PM? Thanks. Private message would be fine.

What is the simplest and most efficient way to manage a portfolio with several concurrent projects and shared resources?

TLDR:

We need to find a way to provide clarity and alignment to everyone, so we all understand what to do, and the progress of everything. What is in your opinion the best way to achieve it?

Our Challenge:

To have a Single Source of Truth for all priorities, assignments, projects, and roadmap.
