Adding to activity duration vs Lag

D
D Hain 👤 Member for 9 years 5 months

What is the correct or preferred way to do this and why.

Say you have a concrete activity that will require 4 days to complete and then 7 days to cure out before you can erect steel. Do you create an 11 day activity (4 days + 7 days) with relationship to the steel erection activity or do you create the 4 day activity and then add 7 days of lag from finish of concrete to start of steel erection. Thanks

How do you create a schedule for a project with a gap period in the project contract

Hi All, please can anyone help. I am trying to build a schedule for a 3year contract that has a lump sum limited liability contract for the first 6months. The plan is to use these first 6months to finalise and approve the design which will then be used to define the rest of the project in detail. There are bound to be budget allocation delays between these first 6 months and the rest of the project, bit the exact duration of the delay is uncertain. How do I build such a schedule intended for EVM without this break point causing reporting issues?

I hope my question is clear.

Thanks

Difference between Start dates in P6

Hello everyone,

I am using P6 V15.2 and would like to clarify the fundamental difference beween start dates available in P6.

1. Start

2. Actual Start

3.Anticipated Start

4.Early Start

5.Late Start

6.External Early Start

7.Planned Start

8.Remaining Early Start

It will be appreciated if anyone can explain the difference between those.

Thank you very much in advance.

Can you limit number of activities on a day?

Hi All

Firstly. I am a lvl 3 planner. And a new one at that. More used to reviewing contractors programmes, than building ones...

So. Question

I am building a programme, where upon only we have a deliverable to be discussed at a weekley meeting

Problem is. We only have two meetings a week. And can only discuss so many deliverables per meeting

If I create a new calender for the meetings, can I create a 'rule' of some king. Ie. If more than 3 deliverables are forecast to the meeting, it will jump to the next one?

Regards

The Future: Planning, Monitoring and Control in 2040

Hi all,

It is 2040 and we're working on a major infrastructure project, what do we think project planning will look like? What will we do differently to today? How will we monitor progress?

I would like to know your opinions on:

  • what trends are emerging in the industry? 4D Planning, Drones, Social networking tools such as Projectplace, Lync etc? Others?
  • how will these trends effect our industry as it is now;
  • how you think the future of planning will look in 2040;

Any opinions welcome!

George
