Schedule Quality Check

Hello Everyone,

For a quality of a schedule what points to be checked, I have listed few but not sure if its right.

  • Open end on 2 activity only, one without Predecesor and another without sucessor.
  • SF logic shouldnt be used
  • All activities should be linked either with FS logic or that perticular activity should have both SS and FF logic

Also please let me know others to be checked.

Thanks

Jithin

How Best to Conduct a General Detailed Scheduling Workshop? Please help with your input!

Hi all,

My name is Alexander and I am from Australia. I am what I would consider a junior scheduler (compared some of you very experienced folk) and I work on a variety of projects, mainly in the ICT space. I really love scheduling and project controls as it ensures project risk is managed with quantified metrics.

I wish to seek guidance on how best to hold a detailed planning workshop for the projects I am currently working with. I have been brought in to conduct programme scheduling for a group of projects that range from Policy, ICT and Legislation.

'Book' about Planning in a UK EPC Company

I have updated my 'book' about planning in a UK EPC Company. It's not about how to plan a project or even how to use the software but the company requirements of how planning supports the business based on a 50 year varied experience. If you want a quiet read send me your email.

Dates are being exported from P6

R
rox lra 👤 Member for 8 years 4 months

Hi Everyone,

I am exporting a project from P6 to .xer and when I import the xer file to another planning tool (ACC), the start/finish dates does not appear.

I have the same .xer file to 2 of my colleagues, tried to import it in ACC and the same issue happened. However, when they imported that same .xer into their P6 and then exported back and than in ACC, the dates showed up.

We looked at the P6 settings but everything seems ok. Any thoughts what can be, is seems clear that the issues is from P6...

Adding new activities to an exisitng P6 Baseline - without changing existing activity baseline

Hi I hope someone can advise,

I am creating a schedule which has 5 workstream leads doing different things, I would like to create a schedule that includes all their activities but they will not be available at the onset.

I would like to add say workstream 1 then add a baseline for that , then say next week add work stream 2 activities  and add to the first baseline but not re set the workstream 1 baseline - is this possible?

Using WPM to augment CPM predictions

We all know (or should know) that when a project is running late, the predicted completion date calculated by the ‘critical path method’ (CPM) at an update tends to be optimistic, and this bias remains true for predictions based on simple time analysis as well as schedule calculations made using resource leveling.

There are two primary reasons for this:

Schedule Weighting using the top down estimation tool

Hi All

I am having a challenge with weighting my schedule using top-down estimation. I have used the top-down estimation tool for a while now without any hastles but I am experiencing some issues this time around. I usually weight my WBS in the WBS window by using a 100 i.e. 100% at Level 1 (Schedule Name) and I distribute the 100% across my Level 2 WBS Elements. I then go into the respective WBS Elements to distribute whichever weighting I have for the WBS element among its sub-WBS elements. See figure 1 below. pay particular attention to "Main Works".
