New Oil & Gas PM Book with Chapter on Critical Path Drag

Not sure how many on this forum work in the Oil & Gas Industry, but a new book titled Project Management for the Oil and Gas Industry: A World System Approach, by Badiru and Osisanyu, was published a couple of weeks ago.  The book is over 700 pages, and seems to be a pretty comprehensive coverage of the topic.  The publisher's description says:

6 Tips to Developing your Project Scope and Schedule – Mind Mapping

B
Brian James 👤 Member for 13 years 4 months

I came across this rather different approach to creating your project scope and generating a project schedule. The article describes how mind mapping software helps by firstly brainstorming the project requirements all the way to assigning resources to tasks and exporting to Microsoft Project for detailed schedule development.

Data Date Time

M
Mike Testro 👤 Member for 20 years 6 months

Hi All

I was reviweing a contractor's schedule as part of a delay analysis exercise when I noticed that the time set on the data date progress line was 08:00.

The work calendar is due to start on 07:00 so for every progress report one hour is lost on the programme.

It could have been much worse if the data date time was 12:00.

I suggest that the time on the data date is set earlier than the dominant work patter start time.

Best regards

Mike Testro

Update Progress

Hello Group,

I have a query which is driving me crazy.

I have a WBS created with 20 headings and each heading has 40-50 activities listed under them.

When I try to "update progress" all activities show "% complete" as per the data date which is "Feb 13 2013"

But the Wbs or heading under which the activities are listed shows percentage complete as 0%

Critical Activities

D
Dura Cell 👤 Member for 15 years 6 months

Hi All!

As I am updating the schedule and run the 4th update of the project, I obtained all activities are critical.

After I submitted to consultant, they commented that all works are critical and cannot be logically correct.

Is there something wrong with the links? Any advise on how to deal with this situation?

I am planning to answer their letter but I need some support and explanations.

My program are all connected, only one open end and one open start. I did not use progress override for updating the schedule.

Thanks PP!

Progress Reporting

S
Sezi Taser 👤 Member for 13 years 4 months

I was wondering what type of reports or combination of reports add the most value to the project control? What type of reports do you prepare to answer which questions? I would like to think about many possibilities and asses the added value of these to make a decision on what I need.
