Making Gantt chart and resource usage views independently viewable in MSP 2007

P

Hi,

When we split window with Gantt chart on top and resource view below (or vice versa), clicking on the top window causes a filter/shortlist on the below window. Is there any way to stop this?

What I want to do is (for big mpp's), adjust task dependencies and priorities such that that optimal resource allocation for all resources. So what I want is both Gant chart and resource usage in full view i.e. not filter/shortlist views in the bottom view if a row is selected in top view (if you know what I mean).

Is there a way to do this?

regards.

Priority based levelling for split tasks having actuals

P
proj2 proj2 👤 Member for 14 years 3 months

Hi,

I have seen below behaviour in 2007:
- A task A got split as there were some actuals before the start date followed by a work done on a different task
-Later there was a changing in project priorities with other project tasks getting higher priorities
- To make sure that half worked task A gets finished before any other task I set its priority to 1000
-Still pending part (after the split) of task A is prioritised after all the tasks having priority less to it! (I use Priority/Standard levelling; no splits allowed)

Why is that?

MS Project 2007-Percentage of task in overall project.

Hi,

I don't know if this has been posted before but I can't see anything about it.

Without any assignments or progress, how do you get MS Project to show what percentage of each task is on overall project?

For example; one task is 10% of the project, next task being 60% & the last task is 30% - not as in completion.

If this makes any sense, can someone please help?

Many Thanks

Emerson

Manual Scheduling - Project 2010

I have just received a copy of MS Project 2010 for evaluation. I cannot understand why it defaults to manual scheduling? The whole point of scheduling software is that it calculates the dates within a network? Why Microsoft see this as an enhancement is quite beyond me. It's like "back to the future"? Dumbing down a useable piece of software so that it can be used by people who want to plan a school picnic will turn off people who need to use it for real world scheduling. Any other thoughts out there?

assigning weightages to tasks for progress measurement

Microsoft Project calculates percentage completion based on duration of the task.  Hence Main task reveals the percentage completion based on the duration of subtasks.  In reality, duration is not the deciding factor to calculate the project's overall percentage completion.  Some activities takes more time, but its contribution to the project's overall percentage completion may be less.  Some activities may take less time, but its contribution to the project's overall percentage completion may be more.
