A pilot study using Building Information Modeling

·A pilot study was carried out with a well known construction company in Greater Detroit Area which was preparing to adopt BIM.

·Objective of this study to observe the challenges during this transition as well as to see the benefits of this emerging tool.

·Served as a key project team member to create architectural and structural models by using BIM tools (Revit Architecture and Revit Structure) from existing 2-D drawings.  An MEP model also created by other team members

·Combined all construction models and construction schedule, ran fault finding analysis and created 4D dynamic construction schedule simulation of the project by using Navisworks. All the data related to the project (specifications, insurance, etc.) were also attached.

·All the visualization features of the BIM tools were used for presentation purposes.

·Project successfully completed, as a result of findings from this study company decided to adopt BIM for their future projects.

Utilizing  Revit Architecture as a Space Management System tool

·This project was carried out with the facilities management of a major university in Michigan for an existing college building.

·Objective of this study to utilize Revit Architecture software for space allocation purposes and inventory management for a pilot college building with 4 floors including offices, laboratories, and classrooms.

·Information gathered through facilities management (CAD drawings, Blueprints, etc.) was used to create architectural model by using Revit Architecture.

·Final model successfully served its purpose and dean’s office decided to adopt this for the all college buildings.

Investigation of Accidents involving Heavy Equipment Operations on Construction Sites

·Collected data from OSHA database.

·Used univariate and multivariate analysis methods to analyze the data.

·Identified the factors that contribute to heavy equipment accidents.

·Established the relationships between these factors by using statistical analysis.

·Developed modules and recommendations for safety improvements.
