Task numbering in predecessor and successor columns

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Vladimir,

In several forums I have met discussions on comparison of the tasks numbering approaches, used by different scheduling tools

In MS Project predecessors and successors are identified by Task ID, which is equal to Row ID.

Disadvantages of such approach:

Activity ID changes, when new Activities are inserted

As a result of the 1st problem, it is also not possible to provide a links table table

Strict links

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Vladimir,

strict links were mentioned in this topic, but I found a couple of other things about them, which I don't understand.

1) In the below example link between Activity2 and Activity4 is Strict. When the project resource leveled the following issues are observed:

a) The strict link is not respected even thought it can be respected, if Activity 2 is delayed

b) There is no warning, that strict link is not respected

About Consumable Resources / Materials and Spatial Resources

The two most common categories of resources on CPM software are; renewable resources and consumable resources.

Renewable resources are renewed as soon as a particular activity using the resource ends.   Only the total resource use at every time instant is constrained. Typical examples are manpower, machines, tools, and equipment.

Importing/Exporting from/to CSV

Hello Vladimir,

I have created an Excell Macro that will generate an "oper" document and save it as a text tab delimited file, in order to import activities into Spider. I have set up the Macro to create for all activities all the "Standard" column values (I refer to the values of all the volums duration, ASAP, Split and so on) to have the default values of the single activity when creating a new project (Activity).

Resource constrained schedule does not seem to work for SF links

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Dear all,

Can you please check the below example.

Unless I am missing something it looks for me, that Resource Constrained Schedule does not produce correct results for Start to Finish linked tasks.

See example below

Deleting of the data from the performance archive also deletes the original (planned) activity data.

E
Evgeny Z. 👤 Member for 18 years 4 months

Dear all,

I noticed the following behavior:

Deleting of the data from the performance archive also deletes the original (planned) activity data. As in the example below, after I have deleted the performance archive from Activity 1, it’s duration changed to 0.

Is it an expected behavior?  I thought that one of the advantages of Spider was the separation from original data and performance archive.

Regards.

Evgeny
