First group of AMEC project controls engineers in Aberdeen achieve ECITB Level 3 Diploma amec_logo.gif

AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has announced that six Aberdeen based project controls engineers have become the first in the business to achieve the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) Level 3 Diploma in Project Controls.  The engineers are Misha Khan, Rob Knox, Iwayemi Oshe, Christian Opara-Martins, Gordon Thomson and Said Olatokunbo.

The level 3 diploma is one of the key principles of AMEC’s Project Controls Training Programme launched in Aberdeen two years ago. At present, 30 employees are on the programme in Aberdeen with a further 15 located elsewhere in AMEC’s European offices.

Focused training and development is fundamental to the future success of our industry,” said Alan Johnstone, Managing Director of AMEC’s Brownfield business. “AMEC, supported by the ECITB, provides a perfect opportunity for the development of our employees and helps to ensure we have the right range of skills to meet the needs of clients.  We aspire to be the best, with the best people and the best systems. Project Controls really can make a fundamental difference to our business and our customers.”

The level 3 diploma is part of the ECITB’s suite of project controls qualifications that are recognised across the oil and gas industry.  Ranging from level 2 to level 5, the qualificationsfocus on all the key aspects needed to deliver a project successfully, including estimating, planning, commercial support, cost engineering (cost planning and cost control), document management and people, processes and procedures.

Any successful project is dependent on a highly skilled workforce and this requires first class education and training,” explains Nigel Spencer, the ECITB’s Director for Development & Quality.  “All of the ECITB’s qualifications are employer led.  We talk to our members to ensure our qualifications meet the engineering construction industry needs.”

Amec are also proud to be supporting the Guild of Project Controls and are investigating how this exciting new venture can assist us in our ongoing path to improved project control's excellence.
