Guild of Project Controls...

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:1388:height=123,width=125]]

As one of the key sponsors of the Guild we will start a regular Guild News Update in January 2013.  While we have been quiet, the teams have been beavering away creating documentation, procedures, website pages, methodologies and collaborating with the professional bodies and most importantly, the worlds largest companies and their project control teams.  The news is vast, the news is exciting and the news is coming.  Watch this space...

Together we make up the Largest Planning & Project Controls Community on the Planet...

So far, in 2012 we have had 2,517, 829 page views and we have handled 923,557 visitors in 2012.

If we get the same activity in December we predict that we will need to handle 1,007,516 visitors in 2012. Phew, no wander the servers cost so much to maintain :)

The map to the left shows the locations of where we visit from.  The darker the colour, the more visits.

We are trying to locate a few more good sponsors so we have the cash to implement the website functionality improvements and requests that need doing (are there any Planners with Drupal capabilities out there?).

So if you know of any useful products or services that we might help advertise, please let us know.

Some AMEC News...

AMEC’s hands-on exhibition inspires young people to pursue a career in the energy sector

Trainees, apprentices and graduates from AMEC’s Project Controls teams recently took part in the Skills Scotland exhibition, in Aberdeen, where they interacted with more than 2000 pupils aged 14-18, from Aberdeen City and Shire schools, to help inspire them to pursue a career in the energy sector.

As well as demonstrating exactly how innovative and exciting the oil and gas industry can be, students visiting the AMEC stand were directed towards a video specifically designed for the event, which explained the concept of Project Controls.

How Traditional Risk Reporting Has Let Us Down...

Many of us can't count the number of times we have walked into a risk workshop and thought “Do we really have to sit through this in order to determine we are not going to finish on time?”

However, certain reporting techniques and new ways of interpreting risk analysis results actually enable the project team to increase their chance of successful on-time.  Read more...

How's Your Judgement?  How do you fare against the Norm?

As project people we make decisions all day long.  So we have teamed up with a very cool company called Judgement Index  These people have a tool which can compare your judgement with that of a sample we are creating using the leaders from within the project controls community.

ji-logo-bmd.png

We will not try to explain it (as we would fail), but to quote the providers...

"The Judgement Index is totally unique and one of the most highly mathematical, scientific and logically based assessment instruments ever created.  It empowers you to measure the value system and actual judgement capacity and capability of an individual."

Please visit their website to take a look at how they might be able to help you, but also watch this space...

Things are still underway (bit behind schedule!) with respect to how BIM interacts with Project Controls.  A working group is (almost) in place and they are investigating how this will impact us all moving forward - from a Project Controls perspective.

If you wish to be involved let us know at us [email protected] and we'll put you in touch with the team leader.
