PROJECT RESOURCE... Good morning and welcome to the October edition of the planning recruitment watch, brought to you by Project Resource Ltd. We bring you the latest trends in planning recruitment across the UK, helping you plot your next career move. Demand has remained steady across the north of England. Senior planners with nuclear, petrochemical or oil & gas experience are being heavily recruited and we are offering a referral scheme for anyone who recommends a planner we subsequently place, click here for details. In London we have seen a significant increase in recruitment for planners in both permanent and temporary roles. Employers are however becoming increasingly demanding in their requirements, most are seeking planners with at least 7 years experience and who are from pure planning backgrounds. Those with experience in rail, infrastructure or construction fit out are particularly sought after. Despite a significant drop in August, demand across the Midlands and Anglia largely recovered during September. In particular, a large number of positions for Intermediate and Senior planners with experience in minor civils works have opened up over the last several weeks. A sharp decline has been seen in the number of firms recruiting permanent planners across the South; however we are still assisting a number of clients who are recruiting planners with strong aviation backgrounds to work on airports projects at Gatwick and Heathrow. TILOS & POWERING LINEAR SCHEDULING BY GOOGLE EARTH INTEGRATION... As part of our involvement with various consulting projects in the USA and Canada, Linear project GmbH has been developing the integration of TILOS with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to show the route (ROW), not only as a straight linear axis but also overlaid on Google maps. This GPS integration provides new information that improves the detailed planning of these projects. For pipeline or high voltage projects, the location of the camps, the storage yards for the materials and the access roads to the sites are important considerations used to optimize the construction process. In these projects, satellite pictures showing the ROW were integrated into a TILOS view. These were generated based on either html scripts for Google maps or KML files for Google earth. Based on the positive feedback from our clients, Linear project GmbH has decided to address this issue more in the future and provide software to allow our customers to integrate this by themselves in a simple and easy way, without preparing complex data models needed in BIM projects. In cooperation with the Science and Technology Institute of Beykent University (link) a prototype will be developed to allow direct conversion of a linear schedule into Google Earth based on some reference. First result will be presented in late spring of 2012.
