About the Role:

We are recruiting a qualified Project Planner to work within our programme office. The role requires a strong technical background and experience of large multidiscipline construction projects.  You will have experience of working on large programmes/portfolios.

You will be part of an experienced team that have a significant impact on the successful delivery of multi million pound contracts.  Such as the new Cambridge North Station (£50m), Gospel Oak to Barking Electrification (£136m) and West Anglia Main Line Capacity Improvement (£140m).

You will be responsible for a portfolio of projects, ensuring that the subcontractor’s programmes are effectively represented within your plans.  Your plans will be used to manage the projects as well as for national reporting purposes.  Your plans will be both cost and resource loaded.

You will report to the Planning Manager, with accountability to the specific project manager for each of the projects within your portfolio.  You will sit within the Delivery Team.

The interview process may include telephone interviews & tests as well as standard interviews.

You will:

  • Put safety first to ensure that everyone gets home safe everyday.
  • Be a team player, committed to working collaboratively with the team and contractors.
  • Develop, control, monitor, analyse and report on schedule related aspects for designated projects within a portfolio.
  • Establish and monitor a cost and resource loaded, logic linked, baselined plan for each project in line with programme office processes. 
  • Capture project costs and resources in the plan to determine time phasing of expenditure and the total budget.
  • Manage subcontractor programme submissions for your portfolio of projects in line with the contractual requirements; from tender, through design, procurement, delivery and hand back.  Including tender reviews, Clause 14 submission acceptance & progress updates.  You will work closely with the subcontractor’s planners. 
  • Build quantified pre tender programmes using bills of quantities, specifications & construction drawings. 
  • Be able to produce stage drawings/time slices to support the programmes. 
  • Validate & challenge both; subcontractor programme durations and sequences (with use of design drawings and project team) and reported actual progress. 
  • Re-plan and re-sequence the works to ensure that the project remains on programme for the delivery of the key milestones (manage your total float), including contingency plans. 
  • Organise and run programme development meetings, both with your project team and that of the subcontractor. 
  • Manage the interfaces between projects, subcontractors and sponsors within the plan, ensuring that they are correctly captured & modelled. 
  • Ensure earned value is accurately reported and analysed for selected projects.  
  • Draft and submit change papers. 
  • Develop hour by hour plans for key engineering works (for analysis in Pertmaster). 
  • Portray a professional and responsible image both within the company and to the clients, their colleagues and contractors. 
  • Ensure that works are planned safely and sustainably to Network Rail Standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Minimum of HNC/HND in an engineering discipline. 
  • Proven advanced working knowledge of Primavera P6. 
  • Breadth of planning experience across whole project life cycle.  (eg, Design, Procurement, Construction, Hand back).
  • Exhibit a strong awareness of the level of interaction required within the project team to support the successful delivery of the projects. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (inc. presentation skills). 
  • Good attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • High level of numeracy skills and excellent analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills working in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project .

Desirable:

  • Project Management Qualifications (i.e., Prince 2, APM,PMI etc).
  • Experience working in an NEC3 contract environment. 
  • Experience & knowledge of Pertmaster and the modelling of uncertainty & risk. 
  • Advanced user of Excel.
  • Ability to reconcile cost information as it applies to the programmes of work.
  • Proficient in the use of Earned Value Analysis.
