This role is based in the Infrastructure and Cities Smart Grid Services business which undertakes complete asset management for all equipment, substations and networks. The Service product portfolio includes everything from LV equipment through to MV and HV switchgear and substation control systems. The company adds value through design, engineering, project management, installation and testing. With headquarters in Hebburn, the business provides service solutions which enhance the reliability and efficiency of customers’ electrical networks, installing, commissioning and servicing many leading manufacturers’ equipment at substations across the country. Its operation and maintenance business covers the renewable, utility and industrial sectors.
This position is a central resource within Service to plan and monitor progress of the work volume and resources in a standard and consistent format. The role holder will coordinate resources in conjunction with the Workshop, Engineering, Tendering, Project Engineers and Project Managers and support Project Managers & Tendering Engineers on a day to day basis in developing and updating their programmes.
The role reports to the Senior Project Planning Engineer and is based in Hebburn with occasional travel.
What are my Responsibilities?
- Projects will cover all aspects of the service business and range in value from £5k to £10 million, the role holder will be given support to work on higher value projects.
- The role holder and Senior Planning Engineer will work on circa 160 live contracts.
- Support Tendering Engineers to create tender programmes and provide seamless transition of tender to projects programme.
- Develop tender programme into level 1, 2 and 3 project programme
- Baseline and agree as contract programme with project manager / client.
- Develop and integrate internal project programmes for the purpose of resource planning, engineering, procurement, production and installation.
- Add resource demand to project programme, produce and update resource profile
- Obtain buy-in and written acceptance of contract programme from all internal sources.
- Monthly update of project progress against contract baseline programme, with input and agreement from all internal sources.
- Highlight to project managers areas of slippage against key milestones and contract completion date and update programme with corrective action impact.
- Produce monthly update of project programmes for project engineer’s client reports.
- Produce level 1 programme for internal monthly project reviews and quarterly Contract reviews.
- Identify and monitor programme risks for monthly reporting.
- Produce programmes to support client EoT, delay and disruption claims.
- Produce programme evidence to dispute subcontractor EoT and delay claims.
- Consider benefits of cost allocation and monitoring utilising the programme tools.
- Provide scenario and impact programmes of prospects and projects landing.
- Allocate resource profiles to above summary programmes to gauge impact on the resources of the various departments/disciplines.
- Participate in 3i and TOP+ cost reduction and sales stimulation ideas creation and delivery to the overall benefit of the business.
- Make full use on the Non-conformance reporting (NCR) tool ensuring all NCR’s are closed out in a timely manner.

- Fully conversant with all compliance related activities and business conduct guidelines.
What do I need to qualify for this job?
- HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering or related discipline required.
- Significant programme management experience within Engineering/Manufacturing or Construction industry required.
- Knowledge of the Electrical Supply Industry from a supplier or customer perspective preferred or equivalent industry with demonstrable transferrable knowledge.
- Project planning experience essential, experience of Project Management is less of a requirement.
- May currently be a Project Planner or Project Engineer looking for advancement or a new challenge.
- Very experienced user of Microsoft Project and/or Primavera.
- Commercially aware.
- Computer literate (good knowledge of MS Office - Excel, Word, etc.)
- A good communicator, with strong powers of persuasion, who can work closely with experienced Projects Managers and explain how their existing programme generation and control could be improved.
- Possesses good change management skills, with the ability to define, research, select and introduce new programming packages and processes with the buy in from both Management and staff.
