SSE Renewables is the renewable energy development division of SSE. The company has responsibility for the development of onshore and offshore wind farms in the Ireland, UK and Europe as well as developing hydro and marine projects.

Project Planning Engineer / Glasgow

SSE Renewables (Onshore) are currently seeking to recruit a Project Planning Engineer. The position will be located in Glasgow office and will be part of the Onshore Project Controls & Governance Team. During construction phases, extensive travel to our sites may be required, including travel within the UK and Ireland.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Development, maintenance and analysis of project programmes using critical path techniques together with Earned Value Management
  • Coordinate/work closely with Project Managers and other functional groups internally, including Development, Wind Analysis, Engineering, Quality, Finance and Procurement
  • Interfacing directly with external parties to prepare and review project programmes and Interface programmes. Identify progress, deviations and inconsistencies - recommending actions and corrective action as required
  • Prepare accurate and timely project schedules or related project control information to allow for effective resource management in support of wind generation projects
  • Provide detailed analysis of project performance and variances, make appropriate recommendations and prepare reports, as required
  • Evaluate proposed changes and modifications to existing schedules and recommend alternatives where necessary to specific schedule plans
  • Preparation of overview and interface programmes, identifying areas of concern or areas that require careful management and control
  • Assisting in continuous improvement of programme control systems and practices
  • Being fully accountable for all aspects of own work and ability to coordinate with all relevant disciplines/individuals

Skills and experience:

  • Significant experience working as a Planning Engineer
  • Experienced with Primavera (P6 preferred)
  • Candidates will need construction industry experience and will likely have worked in the schedule or planning department at one or other of a client, contracting, or consulting engineering organisation
  • Formal qualification in construction management or scheduling would be advantageous
  • On-site construction experience would be beneficial but not mandatory
  • Has worked in matrix style teams
  • Performance driven team player, shares knowledge
  • Self-confident, mature, willingness to seek advice
  • Easily adaptable to differing circumstances, tolerance for ambiguity
  • Outstanding communicator (ability to engage at all levels)
