As part of SSE, the Transmission Infrastructure Projects business is a focused delivery group which is responsible for delivering a wide range of construction projects within the UK. You will work as part of a team supporting a number of major projects in the transmission infrastructure and gas storage business areas.
Reporting to the Programme Operations Manager, you will be responsible for taking a pro-active approach to establishing, implementing and monitoring systems and procedures to secure project and programme delivery to the Company’s delivery schedule.
Key duties and responsibilities will include:
- Leading the Project Control team to deliver high quality planning, controls and estimating functions for the department.
- Ensuring that the Project Controls group operates in accordance with Transmission Projects processes and procedures
- Establishing the objectives and targets for the Project Controls department and ensuring they are met
- Managing, motivating and coordinating the Project Controls team ensuring the necessary resources, skills and facilities are in place
- Establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with other business units within the organisation
- Overseeing the production and maintenance of an accurate project delivery plan and detailed schedules
- Analysing schedule and cost data, identifying key project issues and interpreting this information using Earned Value techniques
- Identifying and tracking of all changes or potential changes to the project scope
- Providing monthly project cost and schedule reports to project management, corporate management, license partners and authorities
The successful candidate will have:
- An understanding of the safety and environmental aspects of multi disciplinary projects
- Experience of operating within and leading a project controls team on multi disciplined projects
- An advanced application of project controls; schedule management including critical path analysis, cost control, cost estimating change management, Earned Value Management
- Strong computer skills and be fully conversant with Primavera P6
- Experience of working on multi-million pound project delivery in the utility, power or an asset intensive engineering environment/industry demonstrating knowledge of the project lifecycle
- The ability to articulate key issues in a clear and concise manner
- The ability to cope with a wide range of challenging deliverables in a demanding environment
- Well developed inter-personal skills and a proactive approach to problem solving
The role involves some travel and there may be occasions where an overnight stay will be required. A full driving licence is required.
