PROJECT CONTROLS MANAGER THERMAL AND NUCLEAR DEVELOPMENT FERRYBRIDGE ‘C’ POWER STATION UP TO £60,000 DEPENDING ON SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

SSE is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK with around 10 million customers across our various brands. The Thermal and Nuclear Business Unit is responsible for the management, development and delivery of multi million pound contracts as part of the current SSE large capital projects investment programme, amounting to circa £1.5 to £1.7billion per annum until 2015.

As part of this programme SSE plan to construct a Multi-Fuel' power station within the site of Ferrybridge 'C' power station. The plant is to be self contained with minimal connections to the existing station. The proposed plant will be capable of processing up to 550,000 tons per year of waste derived fuel with a net generating output of approximately 60Mw. The Project Controls Manager will be a key member of our project delivery team providing project planning and cost control to this project.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Proactively contributing to the overall Health and Safety performance of the company
  • Supporting and influencing the management of projects through the full project lifecycle
  • Proactively implementing and maintaining systems and procedures that will enhance project and programme delivery
  • Maintaining project controls techniques such as; WBS, CBS critical path analysis, cost control, change management, Earned Value Management
  • Providing monthly project cost and schedule reports to project and corporate management and other partners as required
  • Analysing schedule and cost data, identify key project issues and interpret this information using best practise techniques
  • Operating in accordance with relevant Company procedures
  • Establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with other business units within the organisation
  • Ensuring that Contractor performance reports are reviewed and challenged
  • Ensuring an efficient Interface with the project finance team

The successful candidate will have:

  • An understanding of the safety and environmental aspects of multi disciplinary projects
  • Experience of operating within and leading a project controls team on multi disciplined projects
  • A proven understanding of project controls; schedule management including critical path analysis, cost control, cost estimating change and Earned Value Management
  • Strong computer skills and be fully conversant with Primavera P6
  • Experience of working on multi-million pound project delivery in the utility, power or an asset intensive engineering environment/industry demonstrating knowledge of the project lifecycle
  • The ability to articulate key issues in a clear and concise manner
  • The ability to cope with a wide range of challenging deliverables in a demanding environment
  • Well developed inter-personal skills and a proactive approach to problem solving

The role involves some travel and there may be occasions where an overnight stay will be required. A full driving licence is required.
