Planning Engineer

The Planning Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining the project schedule and reporting performance progress against it. This role will be based in Singapore, Houston, London, Aberdeen, Trinidad.

Key Responsibilities

The primary part of the planning engineers’ role is to be forward looking and to ensure project teams are focused on critical activities ahead of them, to ensure the project schedule objectives are met.
• Assist in developing the project and programme integrated schedules consistent with the BP Major Projects Common Process
• Development and management of detailed schedules covering activities through to the start of operation
• Management, support and verification of the planning activities of the contractors chosen to execute the projects
• Ensure that Schedule learning's from complementary work in other BP Business units and external Companies are identified and appropriately utilised.
• Develop and implement progress measurement systems.
• Assess potential contractors / vendors schedule capabilities.
• Provide assurance that the Contractor's Schedule systems interface with BP and progress measurement productivity trending and forecasting is effective and consistent
• Promote collaborative information sharing with Team-members and Contractors
• Foster close working relationship with engineering, construction and offshore contractors 

Essential experience and job requirements

Solid broad based project experience in the selection, design or construction phases of projects and a clear track record of delivery and a willingness/ability to work with all project disciplines.
Planning experience in the major project environment
Well developed interpersonal skills, ability to develop and maintain relationships with colleagues and contractors.
Good communications skills.
Well developed support/knowledge management networks.
Understanding of current Schedule best practices and familiarity with Primavera P6
Must have excellent teamwork skills being able to work with the various sub-teams to resolve issues and reach decisions that are in the best interest of the Programme.

Desirable criteria & qualifications

Planning experience in the oil or gas sector

Significant value is created in the front end of projects where we optimize the development concept with multi-disciplinary input, and a standardized model will ensure that we performance manage the developments to ensure that we continuously improve. .

The goal of the GPO is to deliver sustainable efficiency improvement, close the learning loop with Operations, and to deliver functional performance into GPO Projects.
