Network Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railway. This will help us deliver the better railway that is vital for the economic prosperity of this country, transforming how people travel and make a massive difference to passengers and freight users right across Britain.

The FTN / GSM-R programme of work is to engineer, procure, build, test and commission 3000 mast / REB sites linked by installation of 15,000 kilometres of fibre / copper route cable. Additionally 9 new telecoms exchanged are being built.

The FTN / GSM-R network will then be taken into service by the cab mobile team.

This part of the scheme involves installation of 5,500 cab radios for the South of the country prior to the end of 2012.

This vacancy is within the controls team for stage 3/4 which has been re-organised to provide a central service from the Crewe delivery office.

Stage 3 is the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the new assets.

Stage 4 is the driver & signaller training, installation of signal box terminal systems and readying the network for Go Live with the TOCs / FOCs.

Team members will be expected to travel as required to other delivery offices in Glasgow and London.

As part of the re-organisation and centralisation of the stage 3/4 FTN / GSMR controls function to the Crewe programme office this role is crucial in taking over the management of projects that were previously managed out of Glasgow and London based offices.

As an experienced Project Planner you will be responsible for regular updating and monitoring programmes for a large portfolio of work you will have a detailed knowledge of Primavera P3e and an understanding of the wider Project Management Framework.

A strong knowledge of earned value management and milestone and KPI reporting will also help you to keep control of the variety of projects ensuring that they are delivered to the high standard expected.

  • Experience in management, planning or delivery of major construction and engineering projects?
  • A working knowledge of investment programme and project controls processes and systems?
  • Able to manage data in a proficient and competent manner?
