**Lead / Head Capex Planner — South Wales**

Major capital investment programme within a large-scale industrial manufacturing environment. Permanent position reporting to the Head of Project Controls. Long term contract, upwards £700 a day plus other add-ons or a full-time position can be discussed

**The Role**

You'll own the Integrated Master Schedule across a complex, multidisciplinary capital programme covering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and ramp-up. This isn't a site planning role bolted onto a contractor team — it's the lead scheduling position within a client-side project controls function, with direct visibility to senior leadership and capital programme sponsors.

**Core Responsibilities**

Building and maintaining the IMS across multiple projects and packages, aligned to WBS, OBS, and CBS structures. Developing and managing baseline schedules in Primavera P6 covering the full project lifecycle. Maintaining critical path, near-critical path, and float analysis. Leading schedule risk analysis (quantitative/Monte Carlo) alongside Risk Managers. Defining and implementing progress measurement rules of credit and physical percent-complete across engineering, procurement, and construction. Integrating Earned Value Management (CPI/SPI, TCPI, EAC) and producing variance analyses with root causes and recovery actions. Supporting compensation event schedule impact assessments under NEC4 contracts. Coordinating look-ahead planning (2–6 week and 90-day) with site teams and contractors. Leading cross-functional planning forums and contractor progress reviews. Coaching and mentoring project and site planners. Producing schedule narratives, dashboards, S-curves, EVM indices, resource histograms, and milestone tracking for senior stakeholders.

**What They Need**

Typically 8–12+ years planning large, complex capex construction or industrial projects — heavy industry, energy, infrastructure, or process plant environments. Expert-level Primavera P6 including resource/cost loading, baselines, layouts, filters, and global change. Proven EVM track record — not theoretical, applied. Strong understanding of NEC contracts and their programme implications. Familiarity with CDM Regulations 2015 and how H&S constraints integrate into schedule logic. Experience in forensic delay analysis and baseline/change control. Leadership experience — mentoring planners and driving planning discipline across EPC and contractor interfaces. Advanced communication skills — able to articulate schedule drivers, variances, and recovery actions clearly to senior stakeholders.

**Desirable**

Experience in industrial plant upgrades or greenfield builds. Knowledge of commissioning/start-up planning and performance ramp-up. Exposure to BIM 4D/Synchro/Navisworks. Power BI for planning dashboards.

**Location:** South Wales (site-based)
