A leading rail infrastructure organisation is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer to join its growing team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated planner who wants to play a key role in major rail programmes across the South of England while enjoying the flexibility of hybrid working.

You’ll be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analysing project schedules across a portfolio of rail projects, ensuring programmes are robust, realistic, and aligned with delivery objectives. This role offers long‑term stability, strong professional development, and the chance to contribute to nationally significant rail improvements.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and manage detailed project schedules for rail infrastructure works.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure accurate planning data.
  • Monitor progress, identify variances, and support mitigation strategies.
  • Produce clear planning reports, dashboards, and programme narratives.
  • Support risk reviews, change management, and scenario modelling.
  • Attend site visits and progress meetings as required.
  • Ensure compliance with rail industry standards and internal governance processes.

  • Proven experience as a Planning Engineer within the rail sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of planning tools (Primavera P6 preferred; MS Project also considered).
  • Solid understanding of rail construction methodologies and project lifecycles.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid environment with occasional travel to sites or offices.
