These are numbers allocated for the unique activity in the cycle time.

Say for procurement i allocate ID’s like 101, 103, 105, 107

For Engg., 001, 003, 005, 007

For Installation, 201, 203, 205

First seven alphabets/nos. can be used with upper level of WBS/activity codes. This will help you to identify/filter activities much better.

This is my practice again. You can change it as you want. You can have 4 nos also, but sometimes you struggle with acivity ID , as only 10 digits can be allocated for creating avtivity ID (In p3.1 at least)

Hello Raviraj,

Can you explain what is the motive of keeping the last 3 digits alone in the activity field.

THe most easy way i do is to have (Works better than fragnet):

copy the cycle time (group of activity with relationships defined). Note: In the cycle time, keep only the last three digits in the activity field.

Filter -> No activities

It will ask for three options for renaming activities:

- Rename all

- Prefix / sufix

- Auto-increment

Click on prefix and enter OK.

Type in the activity ID required

and then filter it for all activities.

Re-organize it.

Thats it.

This is most fast and easy way for adding activities.

Hi,

i suggest that you need to turn your back from p3 into primavera P5 . your problem will be solve as easy as feeding chicken.

In a complicated world using p3 fragnet it will be more convinient to use MMD methology management then link it to primavera P5 or to make onself easy use excel . imp/ex.

Hi Ravi

Excellent idea!!!!!!! The only thing I need to do is to re-develop my project using fragnets. But, correct me if I am wrong, I need to change the activity codes for repeated activities each time I retrieve a fragnet. I mean, activity codes contain location information which will be copied exactly the way I have in fragnet.

Ravi,

Excellent idea...can you explain a bit more on using Fragnet.

In fact I have never used it, I used excel for repetitive type of activities and then import these files into P3 project.

Instead of jotting down 600 activities in P3 and then linking them, the best way to do is to first create a activtity cycle. Say a cycle of 30 activities for one floor and then repeating these activties. You can store that as fragnet.

Then you can link floor-to-floor activities.

Same you can repeat for structures / MEP / Cladding and other finishing items.
