I do not use P6 but the issue on Summarization interests me a lot as I believe it is a basic need for reporting to top level management. I have the following questions about Primavera Summarization.

  1. Does it keeps costs and resource usage equally distributed as the source job?
  2. If the above is yes does the distribution displays for both Early and Late Dates?
  3. Does the summarization displays only Bar Charts with no relationships between summary bars or does it displays some kind of "double links". Look at the figure, it is based on a non summarized job collapsed to a desired level of summary bars. It displays the links how I would expect summarization jobs would.Photobucket
  4. Do the summary links table display the predecessor/successor links ID from source schedule?
  5. If "double links are displayed, can these be for Early Schedule Summarization as well as for Late Schedule Summarization?
  6. Usually Owners collect data from different jobs either updated at different DD or submitted on different dates. But still some reporting must be done with the available data therefore there is a need for some way of collecting and reporting on summarized data of different jobs, updated at different DD and submitted at different dates. There is a need to keep a Master Schedule that displays summary data and resource usage/demand based on a combination of jobs with different DD. But it would be wrong to assume all jobs progressed as planned and report on a single DD. Does P6 summarization address this issue? If yes, how? My guess is that summarized projects do not re-schedule.
