Reource schedule

Dear All,

Can we do in Primavera the following condition, if yes please explain.\

  1. Say we have planned for 350 Sqm Shuttering to be completed in two weeks. Planned quantity for 1st week is 200 Sqm & that for the 2nd week is 150 Sqm.
  2. Requirement of daily resources for 1st week is Carpenters – 15, Helpers – 30 and that for 2nd week Carpenters – 20, Helpers – 40.
  3. At the end of 1st week, we have completed 130 Sqm but still want to keep the finish date same.

Dear All

I am posting my query some what related one, please help.

Best Combination of DURATION TYPE & % COMPLETION TYPE for the LOE activity?

Dear All

Please suggest/provide your inputs for the above subject.

I want monitor resources of a bunch of activities with using LOE activity.

My Case : When updating the project if i realize that project is delayed due to client/employer and still i want to finish it on time and for that i need to mobilize additional resources.

What will be the Best Combination of DURATION TYPE & % COMPLETION TYPE for the LOE activity?

Please reply with your suggestion.

Birju

Hi Anning,

You are absolutely right, there is no guarantee that the activity will be completed if you increase your resources based on previous performance, there are so many factors involved and you need to take a closer look for the real reason behind the low output. The first thing you need to look at is the  standard norm and if they are way off then you need to investigate further, it maybe just lack of supervision or the weather condition or lack of skill, productivity also varies from one country to another and religious beliefs.

The context of my previous comment was based on the given question. Thanks for a more in-depth view.

Best regards,

Daniel

1) If in the first week time laspsed, the planned was 200 sqm production, and the team completed only 130 sqm; what is your basis that the team can complete the remaining 220 sqm in remaining one week? Would you just tweak P6 to show that the remaining shuttering work is completed in the next one week time?

2) Remember  in shuttering activities, as the height of the scaffoling goes up, the less productivity there will be. It is safe to assume that the first 130sq me was on the lower levels of the scaffolding, which is easier work. How can it be then that the remaining 220 sq m be completed in one week at the higher levels be completed in the same duration, if the productivity achieved in the lower sections of the scaffolding was only 130sqm.

3) Unless the organization explore to increase the productivity, study your methods, team and equipment, then by merely tweaking P6 to achieve the objective of the question is already a mere computer exercise, and does not relate at all to what is going to happen in the field.

Hi,

You can easily do what you requires...... Use the resource curves and resource calendar....

Hope it will help.

Hi Sudar,

You can certainly do the above condition if you have 2 activities.  Primavera equates output against resource over time and your example has a mis-match, planned quantity for first week is more with less resources hence your output is less only 130 sqm.

In order to finish as planned and based on your output of 130 sqm and your budgeted labour 15 carpenters and 30 helpers or 270 mandays, you need 2.076 mandays per square meter. Remaining is 350-130 = 220 x 2.076 = 456.9 Mandays and based on your plan for the 2nd week you need to add 98 more mandays (6 carpenters and 10 helpers) to your current plan in order to finish on time.

Daniel
